The average desk is 29” high and unfortunately, this is too high to be at the right height for anyone’s mouse or keyboard. Ideally, you want an ergonomic desk to be at a height that allows the shoulders to be relaxed and the wrists to sit lower than the elbows when typing.

If you’re looking for ergonomic office furniture, consider purchasing adjustable-height desks. These adjustable desks allow workers to adjust the height of their desks.

However, if a worker is also using their desk as a working surface for writing and drawing, you may want to consider basic keyboard trays, which allow you to lower the keyboard surface without lowering the desk itself.

Buying Ergonomic Chairs

When it comes to ergonomic office furniture that may be used by a variety of people, the chairs should be as adjustable as possible. Workers should be able to adjust their chair heights to allow their feet to sit flat on the floor with their backs properly supported by the lumbar support.

If you have a range of sizes in your office, consider purchasing various sizes of chairs – as in large chairs and petite chairs.

Setting Up Ergonomic Workstations

A proper workstation goes beyond outfitting a cubicle with all the best ergonomic office furniture. Instead, employees should know the best height for their monitor, proper posture and when and how to use wrist guards.

A monitor should be at eye level so a computer user doesn’t have to look up or down when using their desktop system. Basically, the top of the text should be straight ahead.

If an employee uses a laptop, they should be provided with either a laptop stand or an external monitor. This will prevent neck and shoulder strain.

Next, an employee who sits lower or higher should be provided with wrist pads. These prevent the wrists from straining and can be a critical ergonomic accessory for any workstation.

A Final Note on Ergonomic Work Furniture

For offices with a lot of people, ergonomic office furniture needs to be as adjustable as possible. Remember, smaller and larger employees need to be able to adjust their work environment to their bodies and not the other way around.
