Home Computer Furniture: How to Choose the Best Computer Chair and Office Furniture for your Home

Home computer furniture is about a lot more than style, it has to be ergonomically correct and designed to support you not just while you sit, but also while you work. For a breakdown of features and styles you should look for in an office chair, keep reading.

Good Lumbar Support

Ideally, the chair you choose should give you strong lumbar support. This will keep your posture straight and take strain off your lower back as you work. For even better support, look for a chair that offers adjustable lumbar support, allowing you to adjust the curve of the lumbar to customize it to your back.

Breathable Fabric

Breathable fabric will let you work for long periods without becoming hot or uncomfortable. It also prevents sweat and bacteria from building up in the chair's upholstery, which is not only better for your health, but also lengthens the life of the chair. Some of the best chairs are mesh-covered to allow better air circulation and a built-in cooling system.

Adjustable Settings

Ideally, you want your home computer furniture to be as adjustable as possible. So, look for a chair that allows you to adjust its height, armrest levels, backrest and lumbar support to your exact specifications. In addition to providing you with ultimate comfort, it will also allow the chair to be used by multiple users.

When adjusting your seat or trying it out in the store, make sure your feet can rest flat on the floor. Then, check the depth and ensure that your thighs are properly supported, but the backs of your knees don't actually touch the chair.

Next, make sure the armrests aren't so high that they cause your shoulders to hunch and finally, test the chair on a standard desk to make sure you can comfortably reach the work surface.

High Quality Construction

Ideally, you want an office chair that boasts high quality construction. Look for one with a steel or metal mechanism or base, rather than the standard plastic. Steel will last longer, can hold up more weight, handle constant use and is simply less likely to crack or break.

The Right Wheels

You want a chair that offers you wheel options. Instead of depending on wheel mats, your chair's wheels should be suited to the particular floor surface where you keep your home computer furniture.

Castor wheels for a hard surface should be soft and rubbery while hooded nylon wheels are better for short carpet.
