Zero Gravity Chairs: An Overview of Zero Gravity Recliners and Chairs

Custom Search

Zero gravity chairs were first designed by furniture designers at NASA. They were built to put the user in the same position that astronauts sit in during blastoff.

While the name zero-gravity might imply a no-gravity experience, it actually just means the chair keeps you reclined in a neutral posture.

To learn more about how zero gravity chairs work, along with names of some popular or well-known models, read on.

How Zero Gravity chairs Work

As mentioned earlier, zero gravity chairs actually just put you into a neutral position. Once in this position, gravity begins to exert and equal amount of pull on every part of your body. In essence, the user should feel “weightless.”

Why A Zero Gravity Chair Could be Good for You

Many doctors recommend the “neutral posture” as a way of relieving stress on the back caused by the gravitational pressure of walking, standing or even sitting.

As a result, zero-gravity recliners can also reduce muscle tension while simultaneously increasing circulation.

The balanced gravity or neutral position means that your blood flow and body in general aren’t fighting against the force of gravity. Instead, you find yourself in a totally relaxed and neutral position.

Massage and Acupressure Options

Many models of Zero gravity chairs come with add-ons like massage controls or acupressure points. While not totally necessary as part of the “zero gravity” experience, these extra features can make a chair that much more functional and enjoyable.

Popular Models of Zero Gravity Recliners

The HumanTouch Perfect Chair Zero Gravity Recliner

Retailing for around $1600, the Human Touch Perfect Chair is actually a reasonably priced zero-gravity chair. It’s all leather, available in a range of colors and includes a built-in massage system.

Since Human Touch is actually best known for its massage chair models, it makes sense that they would manufacture a zero-gravity recliner with massage capabilities.

Sanyo Zero Gravity Relaxation Recliner

With a starting price of $2800, this is one expensive chair. The Sanyo zero-gravity recliner comes outfitted with multiple air bags that can run a customizable stretch and relaxation program.

Basically, the bags inflate and deflate in sequence on a program designed to stretch the muscles and release tension.
